Maisons à colombages à Westhoffen
📍 Westhoffen, Bas-Rhin
· 9 Rue Staedtel, 67310 Westhoffen
À propos
Westhoffen has many half-timbered houses. At 39 Staedtel Street, for example, there is a house dating from 1565-1566. The ground floor, used for storage, is made of masonry and the upper floors are made of half-timbering. On the gutter wall, the side wall, there is a corbel serving as an extension to the house and characteristic of half-timbered houses. The ornamental half-timbering is characteristic of the affluence shown by certain houses in this town. On the same street, at number 5, a large farmhouse of 1584 is built. The main dwelling is entirely built of masonry and has windows with molded corners. At the end of the courtyard, the wing in return has a slightly corbelled courtyard and was probably used by the domestic staff. The care taken in the construction of this farmhouse can be seen in the varied ornamentation of the window frames in the outbuilding.
