Städtelglöckelturm à Westhoffen

The Städtelglöckelturm is the belfry of the town. It is used to warn the villagers of a danger or an important event. Legend has it that a woman got lost in the forest and was able to find her way back by the sound of the bell. In gratitude, she offered a silver bell, which rings every night at 10 pm. This bell was used to warn of important events, such as the call for communal deliberations, a capital execution, the approach of an enemy or the closing of doors. The purpose of the belfry is to symbolize the power of the lord to whom the city belongs.
