Orgue de Joseph Stiehr

The organ in the church of Sts Simon and Jude is the work of Joseph Stiehr (1835) and has 24 stops. Repaired in 1858 by the Stiehr House, the organ was transformed by Franz Kriess in 1896, who installed an independent mechanical console facing the nave and replaced the positive with an expressive narrative. The neo-classical organ case has three straight turrets framing two flat-faced sides, and a back positive with two turrets and a central flat-faced side. The front pipes were requisitioned by the German authorities in April 1917

In 1987, the church was the victim of a serious fire. The organ was already in very bad condition before that, but almost all the metal pipes of the great organ melted under the effect of the heat, up to the level of the bevel.

The organ was restored in 1990 by Yves Koenig. The windchests of the great organ, after drying, could be restored, and the piping was rebuilt in the Stiehr way (the Kriess piping was removed).
