The time-honored art of drawing on film and live

In September 2022, comic book artists will step into the shoes of prehistoric artists for ten days. In a small cave in Quercy, they will express themselves using the techniques and gestures of their Paleolithic ancestors. Marc Azema’s film *Rupestres* documents this contemporary cave art adventure, which explores the origins of art and proves to be rich in insights and surprises.

After the screening, the performance extends this unique experience. Two artists from the tribe draw live on stage, accompanied by Thierry Gomar’s percussion and texts by Emmanuel Guibert that shed light on their relationship to drawing.

We have all been drawing for tens of thousands of years. The gestures have remained the same since the beginning, and the basic elements—lines, dots, spots, and imprints—have also remained unchanged. Their arrangement, the meaning we give them, and the surface on which they are drawn—from a cave wall to a computer screen— are merely variations that measure the distance separating us from those ancient times, inviting us to reflect on what fundamentally connects human beings.
