Opéra : Sirba Octet

Tantz!
Dance! in Yiddish.

The famous Sirba Octet takes the stage at the Opera to close out the year—and kick off the next—with incomparable joy and musical vibrancy!

These eight exceptional performers—eight absolute virtuosos—invite us to this “Dance,” which springs from a rich and enchanting musical world rooted in the music of Eastern Europe—Romanian, Moldovan, Hungarian— where klezmer traditions and Romani heritage find expression, in a constant interplay between virtuosity and abandon. And sometimes, behind the revelry and the dancing, nostalgia, exile, and the traces of a vanished world—one that nevertheless continues to resonate—come to the surface.

The Sirba Octet thus creates a unique musical landscape, straddling the line between chamber music and living tradition. On the one hand, there is rigor, precision, and the radiance of the instrumental touch; on the other, a freedom of phrasing, a warmth, a way of inhabiting the music that defies categorization.

The music flows, transforms, and is transmitted—a thread stretched between eras, between cultures, between theaters. An invitation not only to listen, but also to let yourself be carried away.
