Orgue de Jean-André Silbermann

The present organ of the Jesuit church is not the original one on which the composer Georges Muffat, a pupil of the Jesuit college, is said to have played in 1671. It is one of the last organs built by Silbermann (1781). It has 22 stops and is the only organ in Alsace to have a full echo keyboard of four octaves. Consisting of three turrets, the case has wings representing musical instruments, which are not from the Silbermann family. The composition of the Molsheim organ is unique in the work of J.A. Silbermann, with a great organ powerful enough to fill this vast nave. The Molsheim organ can therefore be considered as one of the (too rare) witnesses of what must have been the sound of an organ by Jean-André Silbermann (the best preserved instruments were made by André, his father).

Its restoration was entrusted to the hands of A. Kern from 1968 to 1971. It was classified as a historical monument in 1977 and its instrumental part was classified in 2003.
