This sculpture, created in 1907, depicts the Rapture of Proserpine (the abduction of Coré by the god Hades in Roman mythology).
The original bronze version was cast in 1942 at the request of the Germans.
A marble cast had been made and was on display at the Petit Palais in Paris. The city of Troyes requested the return of this cast, which was reinstalled in its original location in front of the Troyes Prefecture in late 1949.
