Located in Saint-Pol-de-Léon, in the heart of Brittany’s vegetable and horticultural region, the CATÉ experimental station conducts applied research programs on fresh vegetables, ornamental horticulture, and cultivated mushrooms.

This work, carried out at the regional, national, and European levels, addresses the challenges faced by industry professionals and responds to changing consumer trends. In particular, it focuses on reducing pesticide use, mitigating climate change, and innovating to develop new production solutions.

The station works in partnership with the regional chambers of agriculture in Brittany as well as with numerous recognized industry stakeholders, such as Prince de Bretagne, SAVC9OL, SOLARENN, Le Potager de Jade, Kérisnel, and Armor Végetal.

A visit to one of the Caté centers offers a hands-on opportunity to discover how research supports producers and helps shape the agricultural production of the future.

This year, the tour will take place at the station’s “diversification mushrooms” center. There, you’ll discover a range of mushrooms distinct from traditional button mushrooms, known for their many organoleptic, nutritional, and medicinal qualities.

The tour will provide insight into the various stages of their production, from the selection of the variety and substrate to climate control and growing conditions. You will also learn about the experiments currently being conducted by the station on these mushrooms, as well as the challenges and prospects for diversifying this production.
