Iskar

Iskar was formed when four musicians, passionate about the musical traditions of the Balkans and the Mediterranean basin, came together to create a fusion of styles, at the crossroads of Bulgarian folk heritage and contemporary sounds. The band’s name refers to the Iskar, a mythical river that rises in the mountains near Sofia, flows through the country to the Danube, before emptying into the Black Sea. Like this river, Iskar’s music weaves its way through and connects traditions, ranging from folk music and wedding music to modern improvisations, blending emotion and power, tradition and creativity.
