BUNKERS 638 ET 610

In 1942, facing the Allies in North Africa, Hitler ordered the end of the Demarcation Line and the construction of the Mediterranean Wall. Of the approximately one hundred bunkers built in Agde, 30 remain at the La Tamarissière Bunker Site, defending the area against a possible Allied landing in Occitanie.

Among them are Bunker 638, a 220-square-meter German field hospital, and Bunker 610, a 200-square-meter command and control center. You’ll learn how these two renovated structures functioned and gain insight into their construction and equipment through the artifacts the association has been able to recover.
An exhibition on the major themes of the conflict from a local perspective is on display: the German organization, life in the bunkers, the situation of Agath residents under the occupation, and the stages of the reopening and restoration.
