Exposition vues d'Ici - Paysages de la Côte d'Opale de 1880 à 1920

In line with the exhibitions dedicated to the “Painters of the Opal Coast” that showcase the collections of the Pas-de-Calais Department, the Maison du Port in Étaples-sur-Mer and the Château d’Hardelot present a new project on the theme of inhabited and natural landscapes.

Designed as a tour that can be viewed simultaneously in Condette and Étaples-sur-Mer, the exhibition will be dedicated to the landscapes of the Opal Coast painted between 1880 and 1920 by artists who frequented the coast during that period.

At the Château d’Hardelot:

The works on display in the exhibition hall will focus on the representation of nature. The diversity of the landscapes and their vastness are a major source of inspiration for the painters. Capturing the variations in light and atmosphere they observed, their compositions offer a unique vision of the region’s seashores, sand dunes, chalk cliffs, fields, and meadows.

Starting July 5, free guided tours on Wednesdays and Sundays at 11 a.m.



At the Maison du Port Départemental:

The exhibition features works depicting a man-made environment. Within the landscapes presented here, human settlements play a prominent role. Red-roofed farmhouses, fishermen’s cottages, and building facades lining a square offer glimpses of Étaples, Wissant, or Équihen. Through these works evoking coastal architecture, the lifestyles of the 19th-century coast come to life.

Nearly 120 paintings and drawings are brought together in this exhibition, drawn from both the collections of the Pas-de-Calais Department and the region’s museums. This exhibition invites visitors to discover or rediscover the works of Maroniez, Le Sidaner, Chigot, Stévenart, Tattegrain, Ricard-Cordingley, and others.
