On June 20, 1782, the Bishop of St Dié dismembered the villages of Plainfaing, Ban St Dié, Noirgoutte, Habaurupt, la Hardalle, Chaume and Forêt from the parish church of Fraize, and erected the parish of Plainfaing.
This monument was completely transformed in 1884, with its Cavaillé-Coll-Mutin organ.
