À propos
During the 1944 liberation bombing raids, the church was hit by two shells, and all the stained glass windows were shattered....Tous, except for the one depicting Saint Barbe, which miraculously remained intact .... The Bussenets, inhabitants of Bussang, led by Abée Vaché, then expressed the following wish: "If Bussang is spared, in gratitude, we will erect a statue of Saint Barbe on the highest mountain in Bussang, at a place called les Évaux" As it turned out, Bussang did not suffer too much materially. After the war, the inhabitants were able to collect copper, bronze and other materials to build the statue. The inauguration took place on October 3, 1948. Sainte Barbe is only accessible on foot. Access to the statue is by foot only, following the red triangle markers. Other access points are temporarily closed due to forestry work. A hiking trail leads from the village center up to the statue. It's a bit of a climb, but the view of the village is well worth the effort! A description of how to get there can be downloaded below. The IGN 3619 map is on sale at the tourist office for further details.
