Les écoles de Hinot et de Blainot

In 1957, with the creation of new housing estates bringing in new pupils, the rue de l'Étoile schools became too cramped and a new elementary school for girls and boys was built in the allée des Rosiers: the Hinot school (converted into the Service Départemental d?Incendie et de Secours since 2001). During construction, two girls? classes were moved to the Château de Marbeaumont and one to a prefab in the park. Ten years later, as the boys? school on rue de l'Étoile no longer met needs, the Blainot school was built on rue du Sergent-Ferrette, on part of the Ferrette estate. It was a modern building, constructed in a pleasant setting by the Toletti company. The school comprised nine primary classes and two nursery classes. Thanks to this new school block, all the boys from the Marbot school moved to Blainot, and the Hinot school premises were entirely reserved for girls? classes.
In 1982, Blainot school was named Gaston-Thiébaut in honor of the former Meuse MP (1898-1982) who lived nearby when he retired to Bar-le-Duc. The school was enlarged in 1998 to accommodate the transfer of the Hinot school (4 primary classes for girls). It is now the only nursery and elementary school in the district.
