Aÿ, "Petite Cité de Caractère"

📍 Aÿ-Champagne, Marne · 51160 Aÿ-Champagne
À propos
Labelled a "Petite cité de caractère" (small town of character) and home to prestigious champagne houses on the edge of the vineyards, Aÿ is the transition between hillside and river, between the Montagne de Reims and the outskirts of Epernay.

Situated at the heart of the Champagne vineyards, whose historic hillsides are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Aÿ is a town with a natural heritage - its vineyards - but also a cultural one, with a Gothic church, grand townhouses, famous champagne houses (Ayala, Bollinger, Deutz, etc.), numerous winegrowers, Champagne architecture and pleasant strolling lanes? Aÿ is also the birthplace of a master glassmaker, jeweler and jeweller: René Lalique. An interpretive trail and a dedicated application have been created to pay tribute to the local boy and retrace his artistic genius and rich heritage.
12 pieces of street furniture retrace the man, his era, his inspiration and his works. An augmented-reality digital application, "ESPRIT LALIQUE", offers a playful approach.

The "Musardises" tour takes in the city?s heritage and famous personalities through 19 guided stops.
