Flowing down the Alsatian side of the Vosges massif, the Thur flows in a narrow valley where some twenty tributaries join it. This watercourse, classified in 1st category, has a length of 53.3 km.
A river of astonishing richness!
The beautiful "zebras" of the Thur are not trophy trout. Their size varies between 20 and 35 cm, but it is not uncommon to sting a few specimens largely out of the standard.
The common shadow, reintroduced on the downstream part of the route, presents exceptional subjects. It is not uncommon to take specimens measuring between 40 and 45 cm.
The management of the river is the responsibility of the AAPPMAs of the Upper Thur and Thur Valley, who do an outstanding job, one of which has its own fish farm in the open water.
The N66 follows the course of the Thur through many towns and villages, making it easier to reach the banks.
