Conférence "L'évolution du costume du pays de Saint-Pol-de-Léon"

This fall, the Ensemble Bleuniadur invites the public to discover or rediscover different facets of Breton culture through a series of events organized throughout the month of October 2026, at the Espace des Minimes in Saint-Pol-de-Léon.

On the program: history, folk traditions, music, literature, clothing heritage, and oral tradition. Six events will bring together experts, enthusiasts, and key figures in Breton culture.

For this fourth event, Gauthier Philip, a specialist in Breton textile and costume heritage, will present “The Evolution of Traditional Costume in the
Saint-Pol-de-Léon Region from the 18th to the 20th Century.” By examining changes in styles, fabrics, colors, headwear, and accessories, this lecture will shed light on how traditional Léonard costume has evolved over the centuries. It will also explore the connections between clothing, social status, religion, the local economy, and changing fashions.
