The house and the world
The Summer Book Banquet is a week of intellectual, literary and artistic encounters in the medieval abbey and village of Lagrasse, in the Corbières.
Current events increasingly resemble an absurd and cruel tale, where danger, like the wolf in the tale, prowls around our homes and ends up inviting itself in. The house ceases to be a shelter and becomes an exposed part of the world. Catastrophes, wars, conquests, threats to democracy: the sounds of the world infiltrate everyday gestures. The home becomes vulnerable to the tumult of history, and the protective boundary between self and world dissolves.
And yet, in the midst of the ruins, fragile ways of living persist, tenuous forms of resistance to collapse. Thinking about the home is now thinking about the world. After losses and fractures, how can we rebuild? Perhaps by learning to live differently.
From life sciences to the arts, from geography to literature, many disciplines are now questioning our ways of living and the fragility of our environments. How do we live when home and the world have become one? This is the place for reflection, in search of a way of thinking about living that no longer separates the intimate from the planetary, but links them in the obstinate breath of life that seeks, in spite of everything, to make a home.

Alongside the event, you'll find several highlights:
- the banquet bookshop: set up in the abbey cellar by the team from Toulouse's Ombres Blanches bookshop, with a focus on recent works by guests at readings, meetings and conferences.
- les Arts de Lire bookshop: the bookshop adapts its offer to complement the Banquet bookshop. This year, the selection of books will follow the sinuous paths of venous circulation and nerve endings, exploring the teeming complexity of living bodies like rhizomes, and accompanying the progress of the eye and the mind.
- le journal des arts de lire: Available in digital version, the Journal des arts de lire is the daily newspaper of the Banquet du livre d'été. It presents the day?s program, followed by interviews, chronicles, winks, features and other insights into current events at the Banquet.
- the banquet restaurant: Thibaut Olivier, with his team from Melting Pot, returns to Le Banquet this year to serve guests and audience alike. Fresh local produce, seasonal and Mediterranean cuisine, with a vegetarian option.
