À propos
Established in 1890 in the buildings of the Institute of Earth Sciences, in the heart of the campus of the former Imperial University built under Wilhelm II, the Museum is one of the most important in the province due to the richness of its collections (approximately 30,000 minerals). Its role has been primarily associated with scientific research and the training of mineralogists.
The collection originated in the Natural History Cabinet of a Strasbourg professor of medicine. After his death in 1800, the city converted it into a museum before dissolving it in 1880 to incorporate its collections into the scientific collections of the new university.
