À propos
In 1893, the simultaneum in the village of Scharrachbergheim came to an end. Catholics and Protestants, who shared a church, were each assigned a separate place of worship. The Catholics left the mixed church and built the parish church of St. John the Baptist in 1893-1894 in neo-Gothic style. These dates can be seen in several parts of the building, on the nave entrance arch, on the sacristy door and on the lower church door. Some elements of the former Catholic church, now a temple, have been recovered. The church is not oriented, and is built on a steep slope. All walls are of red sandstone from the Soultz-les-Bains quarry. The building comprises a bell tower, a three-bay nave and a rather narrow choir.
