Château de Scharrachbergheim
À propos
The manor was built by the family of Dettlingen, whose last descendant from the family of Scharrach married a nobleman of the family of Dettlingen. This feudal manor is built in the north-east of the village and was a moat castle, or Wasserschloss, whose moat was filled with water from nearby springs. During the Revolution, the castle became national property and was sold. The names of the successive buyers are known until 1871. From that date on, the painter Louis Schutzenberger became the owner. The castle was annexed by the Germans in 1940 and the furniture sold at auction. It was requisitioned to receive the treasures of the Rohan castle museum and the Notre Dame de Strasbourg museum. Four curators will live in the castle and will restore the works of art. The castle is sold in 2007 to be transformed into a residence and a relay castle.
