Biarritz's Art Deco Town Hall occupies a building dating from 1928-1929, which was originally the "Au Bon Marché" department store. The municipality acquired the building in order to transform it into the Hôtel de Ville. Architects Fraysse, Huguenin, Vanel and Giraudel were commissioned to carry out the work. The building opened to the public in 1954. The façade was completely renovated in June 2010.
