À propos
A garden city, offering nearly 25 m² of greenery to every inhabitant! Metz was founded at the confluence of the Moselle and Seille waterways. This particular location enabled the city to become one of the most important communication centers of Roman Gaul, capital of the Merovingian kingdom of Austrasia, and later, an economic capital. A long-standing, proactive policy has not only preserved nature's role in the city, but also helped to develop it.
Today, Metz offers tourists a wide range of attractions to suit all tastes!
The Jardin Botanique at Montigny-lès-Metz offers a tour of its tropical greenhouses, as well as various plant collections such as the rose garden, heathland plants, grasses and a new garden of alpine plants. Labelled "Jardin Remarquable" in 2025.
In the town center, the Esplanade formal garden overlooks the valley and hillsides of the Moselle, and features a colourful array of flowers.
The Jardin des Tanneurs, set against the hill of Sainte Croix in the city's historic center, offers numerous terraced views of Metz and the surrounding area.
For walkers, the city has set up a network of over 20 km of promenades that will lead you to unsuspected treasures...
