In 1778, Simon Vogel, a Mulhouse merchant, acquired this building, located on the site of the city's first hospital, to build his mansion. From 1866 to 1870, the building housed the Sub-Prefecture and then the Kreisdirektion, its German equivalent, until 1882. It then housed several shops.
