Cité Manifeste

On the occasion of its 150th anniversary, the SOMCO decided to build a new city, following on from the one built in 1853. Five teams of architects, led by Jean Nouvel, work on the space freed up by the demolition of the Schoettlé warehouses. Delivered in 2005, their spacious, all different creations express five visions of a renewed social housing, while being inspired by the principles of the original city: alleyways, gardens, and even the architecture of the buildings themselves evoke the 19th century city, its Mulhouse squares, as well as its strip houses.
