Square Adolphe Hirn

Located at the Oberhof, one of the primitive nuclei of Colmar, the Adolphe Hirn square was already a place to stroll outside the southern rampart of the city before 1789. It owes its name to the imposing statue of Gustave Adolphe Hirn (1815-1890) by Auguste Bartholdi. The inauguration of this statue in 1894 marked the end of the restructuring of the park, which had begun in 1882. Its appearance of a French garden dates from this period. Adolphe Hirn Square lives to the rhythm of the Bartholdi High School, which occupies the neighbouring buildings of the former Jesuit College, and it is not uncommon for passers-by who stop on one of the benches to enjoy the flowered paths or the central fountain to hear the bell ringing to mark the end of classes.
