The Tour de Curon dominates the north-west of Arbois.
Exceptionally spared from destruction, the Tour de Curon served as a watchtower for the wine-growing guards over the last few centuries. Appointed by the mayor of Arbois, their task was to guard the vines against marauders in the weeks leading up to the harvest, as grape theft was very common in the 19th century.
The tower was later used as a hunting post for thrushes.
In recent years, the roof of the tower has been rebuilt, the walls of the terraces rebuilt, and the plots cleared, reconstituted and replanted. Since 2004, winegrower Stéphane Tissot has been the new owner of the vineyards around the Tower. Prior to 2004, the last grape harvest on this estate was the excellent 1959 vintage by Marcel Poux (former mayor of Arbois), who owned one of the plots.
