À propos
In 1644, the decision was made to build a new consular house. Four years later, Tarascon Hôtel de Ville was born (Louis XIII style). The façade was inspired by examples in Arles and has a corbelled stone balcony and a niche which houses the statue of Saint Martha with the Tarasque. Tarascon Hôtel de Ville was considered a very fashionable building in the mid-17th century. The other characteristics, which include pelmets, plant-based sculptures and bouquets of acanthus on the façade and around the windows, are very sombre in style. The Hôtel de Ville has been restored a number of times over the years and its façade was listed as a national Historic Monument in 1976.
