Built in 1900, between 1939 and 1944 the château became a maternity hospital for pregnant women interned in various camps. Thanks to Swiss nurse Elisabeth Eidenbenz, over 600 children were born in dignified conditions, far from the camps, until the Germans closed the facility in 1944.
