This spectacular water staircase, a major work on the Canal du Midi, is Pierre-Paul Riquet's gift to his home town. The Octuple (8 locks, 9 basins in a row) built from 1676 to 1680, crosses a 21.50 m difference in level over a length of 300 m. The redeveloped and modernised site is due to reopen to the public on 1 July 2017. Les Biterrois have regained their favourite walking spot... for 350 years
