À propos
An innovator and humanist, Jean-Dominique Larrey (1766-1842) was one of Napoleon's most important campaigners. He is legitimately considered the father of modern emergency medicine.
This Pyrenean, born in Beaudéan in 1766, deserved his statue in Tarbes. The most virtuous man according to Napoleon, the one whose name is inscribed in Paris on the Arc de Triomphe, experienced the battle of the Pyramids, the sun of Austerlitz and the snows of Russia. Sculpted in 1864 by Badion de La Tronchère, Larrey is standing next to the model of the flying ambulance he had developed. At the Allées Leclerc, in a green and peaceful setting, he seems vigilant and austere as if he were healing the wounds of the world.
