HÔTEL VIGNEMALE

The Hotel Vignemale, formerly known as the Hotel de Voyageurs or Hotel du Grand Vignemale, was built in 1905. Better placed than the Hotel des Voyageurs, it offers a direct view of the Cirque and is more comfortable as it is intended for a wealthy clientele. It is inaugurated by RUSSELL himself, who will stay there until his death. One can think, moreover, that this building, built by the VERGEZ-BELLOU family, was baptized thus to please RUSSELL, the lord of the Vignemale. Because, from the hotel, if the view is panoramic on the circus, one does not see the Pique-Longue. It is one of the reasons for the decline of the Hotel des Voyageurs
After the era of posh tourism at the beginning of the century, the hotel was closed at the beginning of the war, in 1939. It was then transformed into a summer camp. Lent, squatted, the building was a little abandoned before its purchase in 1986 by Danielle COUMET. After 2 years of work, it was reopened in the early 1990s.
In 2010, the place will be used as a set for the shooting of the film "Avant l'aube", a feature film by Raphaël JACOULOT in which Jean-Pierre BACRI and Sylvie TESTUD, among others, appear.
