Discover the last vestiges of the Baroque furnishings of the Bagnères church and the former main altar of the Escaladieu abbey.
Opened by teams from the Maison des Ferrère and the Pyrenean Baroque, Bagnères' Saint-Vincent church will reveal its secrets and history through the commentary of enthusiastic guides.
This church, formerly a collegiate church, boasts a remarkable Renaissance-style south portal and some fine Baroque features inside. These include a fine preaching pulpit by Dominique Ferrère (1723-1809), delivered in 1771, and the former main altar of the Abbey of Escaladieu.
Indeed, at the time of the French Revolution, the commune of Bagnères was able to recover the main altar of the Abbey de l'Escaladieu for its church. This beautiful altar, made of a combination of polychrome marble, was created by the Mazzetty brothers in the second half of the 18th century.
