Theater ? Suitable for all ages 12 and up ? Runtime: 2 hours 20 minutes
Written in 1668, *The Miser* tells the story of Harpagon, a widowed, miserly old man. Depriving those around him of even the slightest comfort, he has amassed a fortune that he jealously guards in a chest. Determined to marry off his daughter without a dowry and to secure a financially advantageous marriage for himself, he believes he has everything under control—until his children come along and throw a wrench in his plans.
In this contemporary adaptation of Molière’s famous play, director Clément Poirée issues a challenge to the audience.
It’s an original way to examine our relationship with money. On stage, in front of empty shelves, the actors—wearing only underwear—wait for the audience and whatever they’re willing to give them.
Because here, all your donations become part of the play: clothes, fruits and vegetables, jewelry, musical instruments…
Thanks to your generosity (or despite your stinginess—it depends!), the performance unfolds right before your eyes. Every evening, artists and audience members collectively create a one-of-a-kind performance, with the troupe’s improvisation and energy breathing new life into this masterpiece of the repertoire. And because nothing goes to waste, at the end of the show, your donations will enter a circular economy, redistributed for charitable purposes.
