À propos
Lecture by Antoine Idier, on his book Réprimer et réparer. Une histoire effacée de l'homosexualité (Textuel, 2025)
Drawing on largely unexploited police and judicial archives, Antoine Idier reveals the extent and continuity of the repression of homosexuality in France since the 19th century. He explores the mechanisms of social control, highlighting the role of the state in the persecution of thousands of men and women.
But this story is not just about a past too quickly erased. At a time when reparation legislation is being debated in France, following in the footsteps of Germany, the UK and Spain, this book questions the contemporary imperative of justice: how can past injustices be redressed? A key work for understanding the past and thinking about the reparations of tomorrow?
Antoine Idier is a lecturer in political science at Sciences Po Saint-Germain-en-Laye and a researcher at the Centre de recherches sociologiques sur le droit et les institutions pénales (CESDIP, UMR 8183). Author of several publications, he also curated the exhibition "Dans les marges. Thirty years of the Michel Chomarat collection at the Lyon library", at the Lyon Part-Dieu municipal library, in 2022-2023.
