Colonne Vendôme

The Vendôme Column, erected in the heart of Place Vendôme in 1810, stands 44 metres high. A tribute to the valiant soldiers of Austerlitz, it was inspired by the majestic Trajan column in Rome. Its shaft, fashioned from 1,200 cannons captured from Russian and Austrian armies, is adorned with bas-reliefs evoking trophies in the style of Antiquity. A symbol of grandeur and heroism that stands proudly in the French capital.
