________
Running time: 1h40
Steinbeck?s legendary novel The Grapes of Wrath is set during the Great Depression, the terrible period triggered by the economic crisis of 1929, which had a profound effect on America. The Joads, a poor family of sharecroppers, are forced to leave their native Oklahoma. They make their way to California, an Eldorado where work and money are plentiful, leaving everything behind in the hope of finding a better life? The story depicts, without concession, this period during which millions of Americans were thrown onto the roads without a dollar in their pockets, dying of hunger and cold. Driven by the banks, broken by big business, reduced to the state of beasts. In this powerful novel, Steinbeck gives a voice to the workers: he writes as they speak, with a phrasing that gives the story its authenticity, and that will deeply disturb America and its haves. Decentralized performance by the Comédie de Picardie.
