Site des Salines

A former industrial wasteland on the Dunkirk coast, the Salines site is now an ecological reclamation area where nature is reclaiming its rights. The landscape here alternates between dune grasslands, dry meadows, marshes and reedbeds, and is home to remarkable biodiversity, with almost 260 plant species and numerous species of birds and amphibians. Today, the 110-hectare site is a major ecological refuge and a field for scientific study into the biological recolonization of former industrial soils.
