À propos
Located in the heart of the citadel, in a former tobacco warehouse, the museum is a beautiful building, built around 1850, one of the few historical buildings spared by the Second World War. The visit of the Musée à quai brings to life the millenary history of Dunkirk, a strategic port in the North Sea, in turn a Spanish stronghold, an impregnable citadel under Louis XIV, a city of privateers or even the scene of Operation Dynamo. The afloat museum is composed of the three-masted ship Duchesse Anne, the lightship Sandettie and a barge Guilde. The visit of the three ships moored in front of the port museum completes the temporary exhibitions and the collections of the museum on the quay and immerses the visitors in the life of the sailors and boatmen. Numerous educational and cultural activities are offered to school children and the general public.
