À propos
Shaped over the centuries, from the Middle Ages to the present day, Saint-Dié Cathedral is an essential part of the town's heritage. The building is a harmonious blend of styles (Romanesque, Gothic, classical, modern and contemporary), bearing witness to the evolution of sacred art in Saint-Dié-des-Vosges and the vicissitudes of history. The oldest parts of the cathedral date from the 12th and 13th centuries: Romanesque nave, ribbed vaults, Gothic choir, apse and transept (built using the Champagne Gothic technique). The façade is in classical style (18th century). The cathedral's contemporary features are real gems, such as the stained glass windows designed by and around Jean Bazaine, the great organ (inaugurated in 2009) and the furniture created by artist P. Kaeppelin.
