L'église abbatiale Saint-Pierre

📍 Remiremont, Vosges · Place Henri Utard, 88200 Remiremont
À propos
Remiremont's Saint-Pierre Abbey Church, built from the 11th century onwards, is a landmark in the town's history. It is the result of the superposition of two churches, one Romanesque and the other Gothic, which have been classified as historic monuments since 1983. The building, essentially rebuilt in the 13th century, contrasts the sober Gothic nave with the richness of its marble choir. The 11th-century crypt houses wall frescoes from the 14th and 15th centuries.

Thanks to renovations carried out between 1988 and 2000, the church is well preserved, with its colors and shapes restored. Formerly the church of the Chapitre des Dames Chanoinesses, it became a parish church after the French Revolution. Its treasures include the statue of Notre-Dame du Trésor, a masterpiece combining Byzantine and Romanesque art, and a 15th-century statue of Saint Nicolas. A visit to the crypt reveals medieval frescoes and a monumental altarpiece housing relics.
