La Haute Loge, located in the Hautes-Chaumes region, owes its name to the shelters built by shepherds in the Middle Ages. It lies at an altitude of over 900 meters, and is characterized by a landscape of stubble fields and high-altitude forests.
The area was traditionally farmed by Mennonites from the 18th century onwards, who raised livestock and made cheese. The site was abandoned in the 19th century, but ruins of the marcairie remain. During the Second World War, the Haute Loge was a strategic point of passage for those fleeing the Nazi occupation. Today, it is accessible via several footpaths and offers panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and mountains (Donon, Alsace plain, Meurthe valley, etc.).
