It would be easy to believe that this name is linked to the activity of the place and to the number of champions in the commune of La Bresse, but in fact, the toponymic origin of this place comes from "Champiès" which in local patois means "flat field": surrounded by mountains, the place where the stadium was built is one of the rare flat areas of the commune.
