À propos
Saint-Laurent Church in La Bresse: a witness to local history. At the heart of the village, the church of La Bresse is a landmark of local heritage. It was consecrated in 1758 by the Bishop of Toul and built of sandstone, a material typical of the region. Interestingly, the inhabitants of La Bresse, known as the Bressauds, contributed to its construction by exchanging wood for sandstone stones from the Vagney area. A concrete illustration of local solidarity at the time. The building suffered a fire in 1803, before being restored and completed at the end of the 19th century with the addition of its granite side turrets, which give it its characteristic appearance today. Inside, stained glass windows by Loire de Chartres tell the story of the great tragedies that have marked the history of La Bresse. These works add an artistic and memorial dimension to the visit. During the bombardments of the Second World War, the church was the only building in the area to be spared, reinforcing its status as a village landmark. For further information, a detailed document is available, including the history and symbolism of the stained glass windows.
