À propos
Épinal was founded around the 10th century, on the banks of the Moselle, and grew up at the foot of the medieval castle, built by the bishops of Metz on a wooded promontory. The town suffered greatly from both the destruction of the Second World War and the reconstruction of the 1960s. However, it still has an old town and a number of monuments that are well worth a visit. Epinal is most famous for its Imagerie, founded in 1796 by Mr. Pellerin. The town's "green" landscaping and flower beds are remarkable: all neighborhoods are treated with the same care, planted with trees and flowers. Epinal has made a specialty of mosaic floral decorations, and the green spaces department outdoes itself every year with its plant decorations: carriages, chimes, animals, characters, and so on... But it's all very much in keeping with the Epinal images so emblematic of the city!
