Église de Bussang

The church was built in 1733. The church tower is the third to be built, and the date of the last one is shown on the porch: 1894. The two previous bell towers were destroyed, the 1st by fire, the 2nd by lightning. The current one, which appears narrower, was designed that way, as the local council at the time didn't want to risk adding a third spire. The church is dedicated to Saint Barbara, patron saint of miners and others. The high altar in the choir was made by Abbé Morizot from copper mined in Bussang. In the choir, magnificent choir stalls and an abbey pulpit remind us that the woodwork came from the abbey of Moyenmoutier. Dismantled during the French Revolution and stored in the attics of the Épinal Prefecture, they were purchased by the Commune de Bussang for its church. The Bussang church is home to an organ that was listed as a historic monument in 2013, along with the stalls, altar, Stations of the Cross and chandeliers. The instrument was built by organ builder Jean-Nicolas JEANPIERRE in 1838. It is of great interest to the Vosges organological heritage, as it bears witness to Vosges organ building in the early 19th century. It comprises numerous parts, including 1 keyboard with 56 notes.
