At the end of the 18th century, the bishop of Metz commissioned Blondel to build a new episcopal palace. Work began in 1785, but was interrupted by the French Revolution. Organized around a square courtyard, this handsome edifice, which respects the overall style of the Place d?Armes, finally became the Marché Couvert in 1833.
