In 1873, the old Messinian station being victim of a fire, a new monumental station in Jaumont stone was rebuilt. The German architect Jacob Stahl chose the form of a palace in the Italian neo-Renaissance style with two side wings symbolizing triumphal arches and rich ornamentation.
