Exposition Dimanche sans fin
À propos
Maurizio Cattelan & the Centre Pompidou collection.

The exhibition tackles the notion of Sunday, a multi-faceted subject that has prompted the curatorial collective - gathered around artist Maurizio Cattelan - to make a number of associations, as the theme raises social, political and aesthetic questions that run through our society today. It addresses, among other things, the division between leisure time and work time, private and public spaces, spirituality, light and the potential of art to imagine alternative worlds or offer melancholic meditations.

It is divided into 27 sections that unfold like an alphabet book, similar to Gilles Deleuze's, with each section bearing the title of a slogan, a line from a poem, a novel or a song - B for "Bats-toi" or Q entitled "Quand nous cesserons de comprendre le monde" ("When we stop understanding the world"). The 27th section is named after a new letter or symbol invented for the exhibition. A selection of paintings, sculptures, installations and films from the Centre Pompidou's collection are displayed alongside works by Maurizio Cattelan, from his earliest works such as Stadium, a giant foosball table, to more recent creations such as Comedian and the monumental Felix. The exhibition's chronological scope extends beyond the 20th and 21st centuries, with Gradiva and a collection of rare manuscripts and works from the Vatican Museum, demonstrating the power of ancient mythical sources of inspiration for modern and contemporary art.Punctuated by the presentation of large-scale installations, usually presented on a permanent basis in Paris, the scenography was designed by the Florentine studio Archivio Personale, who transformed the galleries into an abundance of poetic experiences in the form of universes that invite visitors to wander.
