Mining in the coal basin stopped in 2004, with the last extractions at the Houve shaft in Creutzwald. The headframes are today the last visual witnesses of this period of exploitation in the coalfield.

Sunk in 1930, the shafts of the Cuvelette headquarters remained in operation until 1972.
After the closure, they were maintained for the ventilation of the Merlebach workings
The Cuvelette South shaft, on the right, is the last concrete headframe in the coal basin and is listed as a historical monument
The Cuvelette North shaft, made of metal, owes its preservation to the installation of telephone antennas.
